According to Financial News, South Jeolla Province announced on the 9th that three organizations—Hwasun Dogok Paprika Agricultural Cooperative Corporation, Haenam Kkotgil Agricultural Cooperative Corporation, and Chamjoeun Agricultural Cooperative Corporation—were selected for the '2026 Cold Chain System Establishment Project' hosted by MAFRA.
As a result, the province secured the largest project budget in the country, totaling 1.1 billion KRW (including 320 million KRW in national funding), which will help stabilize farm incomes by improving the quality and shipment control of horticultural produce.
According to South Jeolla Province, the 'Cold Chain System Establishment Project' supports cold storage facilities and refrigerated transport vehicles for vegetables and fruits that are subject to significant production or price fluctuations. The aim is to maintain freshness, extend distribution periods, and enhance both shipment control and profitability.
Agricultural corporations and cooperatives handling onions, garlic, cabbage, and fruits are eligible for support, with up to 1.3 million KRW per square meter for new cold storage installations and 110 million KRW per refrigerated vehicle.
In this year's '2026 Cold Chain System Establishment Project' selection, South Jeolla Province secured one local cold storage facility and two refrigerated transport vehicles out of 14 nationwide.
Duck Kyu Ryu, head of the Food and Horticulture Division of South Jeolla Province, stated, "By establishing a cold chain infrastructure from production sites to consumers, we will not only maintain the freshness of agricultural products but also stabilize farm incomes. We will continue to expand support for stable supply and efficient distribution of agricultural products."
Meanwhile, South Jeolla Province has been focusing on building cold storage facilities and refrigerated transport vehicles, allocating 1.5 billion KRW to four sites in 2024 and 540 million KRW to two sites in 2025 to strengthen the cold chain system.
