[Financial News] New research suggests that consuming alcohol, such as beer, may increase the risk of hair loss.
A team led by Professor Nuno Gomes at the University of Porto analyzed 17 studies involving more than 60,000 participants and published their findings in the Journal of Nutrition and Health (JNH). The researchers noted that alcohol consumption tends to reduce hair density, growth, thickness, and shine.
The study found that higher levels of Vitamin D and Iron were associated with a lower risk of hair loss, while consumption of alcohol and sugary drinks showed a significant correlation with hair loss.
The research team explained that diet and nutritional status affect hair growth and maintenance.
They particularly pointed out that frequent drinking can lead to nutritional deficiencies and inflammatory responses, which may weaken hair follicle function. Alcohol can hinder the absorption of vitamins and minerals in the body and increase free radicals, potentially causing scalp inflammation and follicle damage.
In this context, the researchers emphasized the positive effects of Vitamin D and Iron in preventing hair loss and recommended consuming green vegetables such as Broccoli and kale, which have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.
On the other hand, they warned that excessive intake of foods rich in Vitamin A, such as cheese, eggs, and oily fish, could worsen hair loss. The conclusion was that adequate intake of Vitamin D and Iron, along with limiting alcohol and soda consumption, is important for maintaining healthy hair.
The researchers added that this analysis is based on correlations and that further clinical studies are needed to establish actual causation.
Experts also pointed out that lifestyle habits other than drinking can affect hair loss.
Dr. Wajid Ali Anwar from the UK expressed concern that frequent hot showers could cause sudden hair loss due to scalp dehydration. British hair designer Rachel Valentine explained that the habit of tightly tying hair can lead to traction alopecia caused by scalp tension.
