Im Seong-geun, who has been detained on charges including occupational negligence resulting in death in connection with the death of Chae Sang-byeong, refused to comply with summons from the Chae Sang-byeong Special Prosecutor Team for the second consecutive day. In response, the special prosecutor’s team is considering compulsory investigation measures against him.
At a regular briefing on the 6th, Jeong Min-young, assistant special prosecutor for the Chae Sang-byeong case, stated, "Im Seong-geun did not appear yesterday, and although he was notified to appear again today, he did not comply. There does not seem to be a valid reason for his absence. Yesterday, he said he had nothing particular to testify, and today his position was much the same, so we are considering compulsory investigation."
It was reported that Im Seong-geun cited 'mental stress' as the reason for his inability to appear.
When asked whether it was necessary to forcibly bring in a detained suspect, Jeong Min-young explained, "Even if compulsory measures are taken, we will try to persuade him to cooperate with the investigation. From the investigation team's perspective, we must make every effort to verify additional matters within the detention period."
The special prosecutor’s team requested a forensic analysis of Im Seong-geun’s mobile phone from the National Forensic Service (NFS) the previous day and plans to conduct as many additional investigations as possible before referring him to trial by the 11th.
Meanwhile, regarding reports that representatives of Lee Jong-ho, former head of Black Pearl Invest and a suspect in the alleged lobbying for rescue, requested a face-to-face interrogation with actor Park Sung-woong, the special prosecutor’s team commented, "The investigation team will proceed as necessary, and there is no need to respond to such details."
Regarding a Facebook post by Han Dong-hoon, former leader of the People Power Party, criticizing the special prosecutor’s investigation and stating that his travel ban had been extended, the team responded, "Han has indeed been reported, but we have no further comment."
