[Financial News] The court has scheduled a bail hearing for Kim Keon-hee.
According to legal sources on the 6th, the Seoul Central District Court Criminal Division 27, presided over by Judge Woo In-sung, will hold a bail hearing for Kim on the 12th.
Previously, on the 4th, Kim's legal team filed a bail application with the court handling her case. They argued that her deteriorating health warranted protection of her right to a defense, and that there was no risk of evidence tampering as some trials were already underway. They also noted that key suspects, including former Unification Church World Headquarters chief Yoon Young-ho and Jeon Seong-bae, known as 'Geonjin Bopsa,' have already been indicted and are standing trial. In the Deutsche Motors stock manipulation case, a final verdict has already been reached, they added.
However, the special prosecutor team led by Special Prosecutor Min Jung-gi opposes granting bail. The team argued that, with key witnesses currently testifying in court, releasing Kim on bail could allow her to contact witnesses and influence their testimony or destroy evidence. The special counsel submitted a written opinion outlining these concerns to the court the previous day.
If Kim is granted bail, she will be released immediately and stand trial without detention under certain conditions, such as a ban on contacting witnesses. If the court denies bail, she will remain in custody.
