Wanted Suspect for 4.1 Billion Won Habitual Fraud Apprehended by Police Patrolling Ahead of Halloween

A suspect who committed habitual fraud worth approximately 4 billion won and had been on the run for two years was caught by police officers conducting patrols ahead of Halloween.
The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency's Mobile Patrol Unit announced on the 6th that it had apprehended Mr. A, who was wanted for habitual fraud totaling 4.1 billion won.
According to the police, at around 1 p.m. on the 21st of last month, the Mobile Patrol Unit was patrolling the area around Gangnam Station in preparation for Halloween when they spotted a luxury foreign vehicle without mandatory insurance and ordered it to stop. Mr. A attempted to evade the police by making illegal U-turns and driving against traffic for about 3 kilometers, but was eventually blocked by a patrol car and apprehended in a dead-end in a densely populated residential area in Seocho-dong.
Upon confirming his identity, police found that Mr. A had a total of 20 outstanding warrants for fraud. From 2013 to 2023, he defrauded 24 individuals of a total of 4.1 billion won and had been on the run for about two years. He reportedly approached victims under the pretense of investment, demanded collateral, and then stole large amounts of stocks.
After arresting Mr. A, the police transferred him to the Integrated Investigation Team at Gangnam Police Station in Seoul, which had issued the warrant, and additionally charged him with violating the Automobile Damage Compensation Guarantee Act.
A representative from the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency stated, "We will continue to strengthen preventive patrols in areas where serious crimes such as relationship-based crimes and crimes with abnormal motives are likely to occur, and do our utmost to enhance the public’s sense of safety."
