On the afternoon of the 5th, Lee Jin-sook announced at the Seoul Southern District Prosecutors' Office that she had accused the Chief of Yeongdeungpo Police Station and the former Chief of Investigation Division 2, Yeongdeungpo Police Station of abuse of power.
Before submitting the complaint, Lee Jin-sook told reporters, "The police summoned me several times, but there must be a reasonable justification for a summons. I was summoned six times, and I believe many of those were groundless."
She continued, "The police claim that the statute of limitations is six months and that I must be summoned quickly, but when a public official abuses their authority, the statute of limitations is ten years. The police say that only after an investigation can it be determined whether the statute of limitations is six months or ten years. This is essentially an admission that they are incompetent."
Lee Jin-sook also criticized Minister of Government Legislation Woncheol Cho's remarks about President Lee Jae Myung’s acquittal in the Daejang-dong development scandal retrial.
She said, "If you support or praise President Lee Jae Myung, you are considered part of a more equal group, but if you criticize him, you become less equal. The same law is not applied equally, and only I, who criticize the president’s flawed policies, am discriminated against. If my remarks on YouTube are considered a violation of the Public Official Election Act, then Minister of Government Legislation Woncheol Cho should also be held accountable for violating the same law."
Previously, on the 2nd, the police arrested Lee Jin-sook on charges of violating the Public Official Election Act and the State Public Officials Act. However, her legal team requested a Review of Legality of Arrest, which the court accepted, leading to her release two days after her arrest. Subsequently, on the 27th of last month, Yeongdeungpo Police Station conducted a third round of questioning. The police stated that further investigation into Lee Jin-sook’s charges was necessary and requested her appearance.
However, Lee Jin-sook’s side argued, "There were no significant findings during the third questioning, and the questions were repetitive. This constitutes an abuse of the police’s authority to summon, and the unnecessary demand for questioning amounts to abuse of power."
Accordingly, the Chief of Yeongdeungpo Police Station and the former Chief of Investigation Division 2, Yeongdeungpo Police Station, who was in charge of the investigation at the time of the arrest, were named as the main subjects of the complaint. Unidentified accomplices include the Commissioner of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency, the Commissioner of the National Office of Investigation, and the Acting Commissioner General of the Korean National Police Agency. However, Lee Jin-sook’s side explained that although there is strong suspicion of their collusion, they were listed as unidentified due to a lack of direct evidence.
The complaint states, "The accused, as police officers, arrested the complainant on October 2, and after the Review of Legality of Arrest was granted and she was released on the afternoon of the 4th, conducted two thorough investigations. Despite this, they again demanded her appearance without sufficient grounds. By abusing their authority as public officials and forcing a person to perform an act they are not obligated to do, they should be punished for abuse of power."
