[The Financial News] Comedian Lee Kyung-kyu, who was charged with driving under the influence of medication, has been issued a summary fine.
According to legal sources on the 5th, Youngrim Lee, a single judge at the Seoul Central District Court, issued a summary order of a 2 million won fine to Lee for violating the Road Traffic Act on the 31st of last month.
The Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office summarily indicted Lee last month on the 21st, seeking a 2 million won fine. A summary order is a procedure in which fines or penalties are imposed without a formal trial. If the defendant objects, they may request a formal trial within one week of receiving the summary order.
Lee was charged with driving another person's car in Nonhyeon-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, last June while under the influence of prescription medication. The car owner suspected theft and reported it to the police, but it was later determined that a parking attendant had mistakenly handed the car to Lee.
At the time, Lee was not under the influence of alcohol, but a preliminary drug test returned a positive result, confirming drug use.
Lee explained, "I did not realize that I should not drive when feeling unwell after taking medication for panic disorder."
