The Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education announced on the 5th that it has resumed the 'Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education Sports Competition by Event,' which had been suspended since 2019.
This competition was organized to provide Seoul's student athletes with opportunities to fully demonstrate their abilities, especially in sports where performance at the National Youth Sports Festival has declined and nurturing student athletes has become challenging.
The competition, running until December 14, will see a total of approximately 2,600 elementary, middle, and high school student athletes participate in 13 sports, including core events such as track and field, swimming, and gymnastics. Individual events feature soft tennis, boxing, yachting, wrestling, bowling, badminton, tennis, and equestrian, while team events include baseball and hockey.
The first event, rhythmic gymnastics, was held on October 25. Competitions will continue sequentially at various venues across Seoul, concluding with the badminton event on December 14.
Geun-sik Chung, Superintendent of Education, stated, "Through this competition, I expect student athletes to fully showcase their talents, compete fairly, and learn the spirit of honest challenge in sports." He added, "We will spare no effort in supporting basic and less popular sports, helping Seoul's student athletes grow into outstanding sports talents."
The Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education Sports Competition by Event is co-hosted by the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education and the Seoul Sports Council, with each event's association providing referees and operational staff.
The two organizations signed a business agreement in July and each allocated a budget of 100 million KRW for the operation of the competition.
In September, the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education and the Seoul Sports Council's School Sports Committee discussed support measures for the competition's operation, further strengthening their cooperative framework.
Moving forward, both organizations plan to maintain close cooperation to expand the number of events and ensure stable management.
