[Financial News] Hyundai Motor Group and Kia Corporation’s Demand Responsive Transport (DRT) service, Shucle, successfully completed its first overseas pilot project in Hungary, demonstrating its potential for global expansion.
Hyundai Motor Group and Kia Corporation announced on the 5th that they had successfully concluded the pilot operation of Shucle’s 'Hungary Demand Responsive Transport (DRT) Service' in Gödöllő, Hungary, from August to October.
Gödöllő is a small city with a population of less than 40,000, where five buses cover 12 routes, resulting in low public transportation efficiency. As a result, residents have long experienced inconvenience due to lengthy wait times for public transit.
Shucle is a mobility service that generates real-time routes based on passenger requests. Leveraging artificial intelligence (AI), it predicts demand and enables efficient vehicle dispatch and optimal routing.
During the pilot period, Hyundai Motor Group and Kia Corporation deployed two Shucle vehicles, providing service to 2,950 residents through a total of 3,138 ride requests. With the introduction of Shucle, the average public transportation wait time dropped from 60 minutes to about 6 minutes—a 90% reduction. Local residents expressed high satisfaction, saying, "Thanks to Hyundai Motor Group, we can get around anytime, even without a car."
Hyundai Motor Group and Kia Corporation also released a touching video featuring the Shucle research team preparing for the pilot and the real story of a grandmother in Gödöllő who enjoyed shopping with her granddaughter thanks to Shucle.
This pilot project was part of the Economic Innovation Partnership Program (EIPP), led by the Ministry of Economy and Finance and the Korea Development Institute (KDI), aiming to establish a DRT system in Hungary and expand eco-friendly mobility solutions.
Kim Soo-young, Executive Vice President of Mobility Business at Hyundai Motor Group and Kia Corporation, stated, "Through this pilot project in Hungary, we have proven both the satisfaction of Gödöllő residents and the operational efficiency of Shucle." He added, "Building on this experience, we plan to accelerate global expansion based on local partnerships."security@fnnews.com Park Kyung-ho
