[Financial News] Popular content from CJ ENM and TVING will be released in Japan through Disney+. On the 6th, ‘Dear X,’ starring Kim Yoo-jung, Kim Young-dae, and Kim Do-hoon, will premiere simultaneously on TVING in Korea and Disney+ in Japan.
The Walt Disney Company Japan announced on the 4th that it has entered into a strategic partnership with CJ ENM. Through this partnership, TVING’s premium streaming content will officially enter the Japanese market, and Disney+ will become TVING’s main subscription video-on-demand (SVOD) partner in Japan.
With this collaboration, Disney+ will sequentially release over 60 of TVING’s signature works and popular CJ ENM series, including ‘Guardian: The Lonely and Great God’ and ‘Reply 1988,’ starting today (the 5th). To facilitate this, Disney+ Japan has launched new sections called ‘TVING Highlights’ and the ‘TVING Collection,’ allowing local viewers to easily enjoy K-content at a glance.
Tamotsu Hiiro, President of The Walt Disney Company Japan, remarked, “As Disney+ marks its fifth anniversary, we are focusing on diversifying our content. Our collaboration with CJ ENM and TVING will be a significant milestone,” adding, “We aim to deliver a new viewing experience that blends global blockbusters, local originals, and Korean content.”
Julie Choi, CEO of TVING, stated, “Our partnership with Disney is an opportunity to effectively introduce TVING content to Japanese viewers. We will continue to expand attractive K-content in the global market and strive to become a leading global K-OTT platform.”
Tony Zameczkowski, Executive Vice President and Head of DTC, Asia-Pacific at The Walt Disney Company, emphasized, “As Korean storytelling captivates audiences worldwide, this partnership marks a new turning point for strengthening Disney+’s Korean content portfolio and expanding in the Japanese market.”
