[Financial News] Kakao Corporation is once again gifting visually impaired individuals with a ‘calendar to be experienced by touch,’ following last year’s initiative.
In honor of Korean Braille Day, Kakao Corporation announced on the 4th that it has produced the ‘2026 Kakao Braille Calendar.’ Starting today, the company will sequentially distribute 8,000 copies to special schools for the visually impaired, related institutions, and organizations for the visually impaired nationwide.
The Kakao Braille Calendar is part of the group’s integrated mutual growth initiative, ‘Closer Together, Kakao,’ which began last year. This year, the number of calendars produced increased by 167% compared to last year, totaling 8,000 copies. The main recipients include 2,200 students and staff at special schools for the visually impaired across the country and 5,200 copies to organizations such as the Korea Blind Union. Unlike last year, the distribution has been expanded to include visually impaired adults.
To allow those without visual impairments to experience it as well, 600 copies will be sold through Kakao Makers, with all proceeds donated to Seoul Hyojeong School, a special school for visually impaired infants and young children (ages 0-5).
The Kakao Braille Calendar features Braille descriptions so that visually impaired users can feel and understand the characters with their fingertips. Tactile lines have been added to characters such as Ryan and Apeach. This year, the calendar also incorporates tactile illustrations of key items related to major holidays each month, further enhancing the information provided.
A newly added ‘Braille Calendar User Guide’ explains the calendar’s main features and Braille notation (including lunar calendar and sticker symbols). The tactile stickers have been diversified so that users can mark important daily events such as birthdays, exams, important dates, travel, and hospital visits in Braille. The font size for the overview of anniversaries and holidays has also been enlarged to improve readability.
Kim Hye-il, Digital Accessibility Officer at Kakao Corporation, stated, “The Kakao Braille Calendar is a symbolic project that extends the digital platform experience into the analog realm, opening up a new world for the visually impaired. We have worked to ensure that it provides practical assistance not only to students but also to visually impaired individuals of all ages.”
