PRISM Live Studio, Naver Corporation’s mobile live streaming app, announced on the 4th that it has launched a new motion capture feature in collaboration with Sony, integrating Sony’s mocopi system.
Through this partnership, the company aims to make full-body VTubing—live streaming using virtual avatars—accessible to anyone on a smartphone. This move is expected to expand the reach of mobile virtual streaming technology.
By working with Sony, PRISM Live Studio now supports motion tracking optimized for mobile environments, eliminating the need to visit a professional virtual live studio. Previously, the app enabled users to create virtual content using 3D Avatars. With the addition of Sony’s motion tracking, users can now perform full-body virtual streaming on mobile, not just upper body.
Sony’s mocopi is a wireless motion capture solution that connects six sensors to a smartphone via Bluetooth, recognizing the user’s full-body movements and reflecting them in real time in 3D content. The mocopi integration is compatible with all 3D Avatars supported by PRISM Live Studio.
In addition to live streaming, the full-body tracking feature of Sony’s mocopi can also be used when creating VOD content with PRISM Live Studio’s video recording function. This is expected to greatly expand the creative possibilities for virtual creators using PRISM Live Studio.
Song Yuseop, Unity development lead at PRISM Live Studio, stated, “Growth in the creator ecosystem is directly linked to expanded means of expression. This mocopi integration is significant because it overcomes the limitations of complex full-body VTubing in mobile environments, freeing creators from spatial constraints.”
Meanwhile, PRISM Live Studio, the live streaming app, leverages Naver Corporation’s proprietary media technology to make it easy to create 3D Avatar-based content on mobile and is rapidly growing its global user base. Since its official launch in 2019, the app has broadcasted over 107 million streams, with an average of 150,000 live streams created daily. Approximately 90% of users are overseas, and the app holds a 47% download share among the top 20 global live streaming apps. In Korea, it maintains an 83% download share, consistently ranking first in the live streaming app category and earning recognition for its technological excellence.
