Gwangmyeong Co-Hosts National Policy Conference to Mark 30 Years of Local Autonomy

Gwangmyeong, Gyeonggi Province, announced on the 4th that it will host the '2025 Chamjoeun Local Autonomy Policy Conference' at Sarangjae, National Assembly Building, at 1:30 p.m. on the 7th. The event, marking the 30th anniversary of locally elected governments, aims to share the achievements of local governments across the country and explore future visions for local autonomy.
This event, held in collaboration with the Chamjoeun Council of Local Governments to commemorate the 30th anniversary of local autonomy, is themed 'Competent Local Autonomy, Reliable Local Governments.' It is designed to identify and share outstanding policies implemented by local governments nationwide, while strengthening governance for cooperation and mutual growth among local authorities.
A total of 48 local governments from across the country will participate, presenting their outstanding policies and having their achievements evaluated. Awards will be presented in 27 categories, including the Prime Minister's Award, the Speaker of the National Assembly Award, and the Minister of the Interior and Safety (MOIS) Award.
Additionally, policy promotion booths will be set up at the venue to showcase creative policy achievements and best practices from each local government, further expanding opportunities for exchange and cooperation.
Mayor Park Seung-won stated, "This year marks the 30th anniversary of locally elected governments, making it a meaningful time to reflect on the journey of residents and local communities as key players in policy-making." He added, "I hope this policy conference becomes a starting point for local governments nationwide to learn from one another, collaborate, and realize the values of local autonomy and everyday resident sovereignty."
