[Financial News] The panel overseeing the December 3 Martial Law and insurrection case against former Prime Minister Han Duck-soo has decided to summon former President Yoon Suk Yeol as a witness.
On the 3rd, the 33rd Criminal Division of the Seoul Central District Court (Presiding Judge Lee Jin-kwan) announced during the fifth hearing for Han Duck-soo, who faces charges including abetting the leader of an insurrection, participation in important duties related to insurrection, and perjury, that "next week, four individuals—former President Yoon Suk Yeol, former Minister of National Defense Kim Yong-hyun, former People Power Party floor leader Choo Kyung-ho, and Song Mi-ryeong from the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs—will be summoned for witness examination."
The court is currently holding hearings for Han Duck-soo's case every Monday and Wednesday. The specific days on which the four witnesses will be called will be determined after coordinating with both the Special Prosecutor Team (led by Cho Eun-seok) and Han Duck-soo's legal team.
At the next hearing on the 5th, Lee Sang-min, former Minister of the Interior and Safety, Choi Sang-mok, former Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs, and Park Sang-woo, former Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport—who are all currently detained and standing trial—are scheduled to appear in court.
Meanwhile, Han Duck-soo's legal team has once again objected to the Special Prosecutor Team's amendment to the indictment. On the 27th of last month, the court granted the Special Prosecutor Team's request to selectively merge the charge of participation in important duties related to insurrection with the previously indicted charge of abetting the leader of an insurrection.
Han Duck-soo's side argued, "The previous charge of abetting implies the defendant acted indirectly or in a supporting role, whereas participation in important duties related to insurrection presupposes active and direct involvement." They further stated, "Amending the indictment substantially undermines the defendant's right to defense. In a sudden and chaotic situation, efforts were made, albeit briefly, to prevent the president's imposition of martial law."
