[Financial News] World leaders have taken on the role of K-pop ambassadors. At the welcome banquet for the 2025 APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting (APEC Summit) held at Lahan Select Gyeongju in Gyeongju-si, leaders filmed G-Dragon’s performance and shared the videos on their social networking services (SNS), promoting K-pop to their citizens.
On the 1st, Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong posted a video of G-Dragon’s performance on his Instagram, stating, “APEC is about more than just policy and trade negotiations. Korea prepared a spectacular gala dinner show hosted by K-pop star G-Dragon, who is serving as an APEC ambassador, for everyone.”
Singaporeans responded to Prime Minister Wong’s post with comments such as, “Please bring G-Dragon to Singapore,” and “Let’s have a Big Bang concert in Singapore.”
Prime Minister Wong also uploaded G-Dragon’s song 'Home Sweet Home' as background music.
The following day, Wong’s spouse, Lu Zhi Rui, also mentioned G-Dragon while meeting with Kim Hea Kyung.
Deputy spokesperson An Gwi-ryeong stated in a written briefing, “Mrs. Kim and Mrs. Lu discussed shared interests such as women’s participation in society, the educational fervor in both countries, and cultural cooperation during their conversation.” She added, “There is hardly anyone in Singapore who doesn’t know G-Dragon. Watching his performance at the welcome banquet made others envious,” which reportedly brought laughter.

The previous day, G-Dragon was the only K-pop artist to perform. During his approximately 10-minute set, he sang 'Home Sweet Home' as well as 'Power' and 'Drama,' tracks from his third studio album 'Übermensch.'
Notably, his modern reinterpretation of the traditional Korean 'Gat' hat drew attention online for its resemblance to Jinwoo from the virtual boy group 'Saja Boys' in the global Netflix animated film 'KPop Demon Hunters.'
As a result, APEC leaders attending the banquet simultaneously took out their smartphones to record his performance and shared the videos on their social networking services (SNS).
Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim also posted a 'fancam' video of G-Dragon’s performance on Instagram the same day, writing, “Many K-pop fans in Malaysia asked me to share G-Dragon’s performance tonight. To avoid disappointing them, I’m sharing a bit of his stage.” He added hashtags such as ‘APEC 2025’ and ‘Kpop Forever.’
The video received 110,000 likes and more than 4,000 comments in just one day. The comments were filled with messages of gratitude, such as “You look like a father granting his children’s wishes,” and “Prime Minister, we love you.”
Marcelo Ebrard, Mexico’s Minister of Economy, also posted a video of G-Dragon’s performance on Instagram on the 2nd, tagging G-Dragon’s account. Ebrard wrote, “Are you the king of K-pop?” and added, “How about it? I was sitting in the front row at the concert. Are there any G-Dragon or Big Bang fans here?”
Fans responded to his question, leaving comments on the minister’s account such as, “Please tell G-Dragon we love him,” and “Bring G-Dragon to Mexico.”
