[Financial News] Experts are warning that if the time spent sitting still and staring at smartphones continues to increase, in 25 years, slouched shoulders and protruding belly fat could become the norm for most people.
On October 30 (local time), the step-tracking app WeWard released AI-generated images showing how the human body might change if sedentary 'stay-at-home' lifestyles persist. The images were based on their exercise data and expert opinions.
The most striking feature in these images is the bulging belly fat.
Unburned fat accumulates in the abdomen, leading to abdominal obesity, which increases the risk of heart disease and diabetes.
Spending long hours sitting or looking at screens with poor posture also leads to a classic 'tech neck,' which is another notable change.
WeWard pointed out that beyond appearance, this can cause chronic shoulder and neck pain.
They also warned that failing to break the habit of prolonged sitting can impair blood circulation, stiffen joints, and worsen symptoms such as hair loss and dark circles under the eyes.
WeWard further noted, "People often spend long hours on their smartphones searching for anti-aging tips, but ironically, the blue light emitted from these devices accelerates skin aging and vision decline."
Previously, the World Health Organization (WHO) reported that 80% of adolescents worldwide are not meeting the recommended levels of physical activity.
