GYEONGJU, Republic of Korea (ROK) — President Lee Jae Myung concluded the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit in Gyeongju on the 1st, stating, "Peace on the Korean Peninsula is a prerequisite for the prosperity of the Asia-Pacific. We will continue to take broad-minded and proactive measures for peace."
Just before the end of the second APEC session, President Lee requested a special statement, saying, "The government of the Republic of Korea has proactively worked to ease military tensions and restore trust between the two Koreas."
He went on to emphasize, "The foundation for a sustainable tomorrow that we are building is peace. Only with peace can we expand connections and achieve shared prosperity for all." He also pointed out, "Military confrontation, tensions, and nuclear issues are restricting stability and cooperation not only on the Korean Peninsula but across the entire Asia-Pacific region."
President Lee stated, "Under the principle of resolving issues through dialogue, the Republic of Korea will open a 'new era for the Korean Peninsula' that pursues peaceful coexistence and shared growth. Peace on the Korean Peninsula will lead to mutual prosperity throughout Asia."
Finally, he appealed, "When APEC member economies offer their support and cooperation, the path to peaceful coexistence will become a reality. Let us continue to work together for a peaceful tomorrow."
