According to Financial News, the LG Twins, who claimed the Korean Series title for the first time in two years, are set to receive the largest championship payout in history.
According to the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) on the 1st, the KBO League drew a total of 335,080 spectators across all 16 Postseason games this year, with every game sold out. Ticket sales alone generated approximately 15.7 billion KRW, surpassing last year’s record Postseason ticket revenue of 14.6 billion KRW by about 1.1 billion KRW.
Under Article 47 of the KBO League regulations, the revenue is distributed among the five teams that advanced to the Postseason. After deducting all operational expenses, the Korea Baseball Organization divides the remaining amount among the five clubs. These expenses are estimated to account for about 43 to 45 percent of the total revenue. The exact payout will be determined following the completion of accounting procedures.
If operational expenses are calculated at 44 percent, the total payout is estimated at around 8.8 billion KRW. The regular season champion first receives 20 percent, then 50 percent of the remaining amount goes to the Korean Series champion, 24 percent to the runner-up, 14 percent to the team eliminated in the playoffs, 9 percent to the team eliminated in the semi-playoffs, and 3 percent to the team eliminated in the wild card round.
LG, as the regular season champion, will receive 1.76 billion KRW. With their Korean Series victory, they will earn an additional 3.52 billion KRW, bringing their total to 5.28 billion KRW.
Following the Postseason rankings, Hanwha Eagles will receive 1.69 billion KRW, Samsung Lions 990 million KRW, SSG Landers 630 million KRW, and NC Dinos 210 million KRW.
In addition to the KBO championship payout, LG is also expected to receive a bonus from its parent company. According to the bonus regulations of the Korea Baseball Organization and the 10 clubs, the parent company of the champion team can award up to 50 percent of the total payout as a bonus. If LG Group grants the maximum bonus, the LG club will receive an additional 2.64 billion KRW. Combining the Postseason payout and the group bonus, LG’s total earnings would reach 7.92 billion KRW.
