[Financial News] Lee Hyung-hee, President and Chairman of the Communications Committee at the SUPEX Council, has been promoted to Vice Chairman. This marks the first appointment of a vice chairman in two years since the large-scale executive reshuffle at the end of 2023. Yoo Young-sang, CEO of SK Telecom, has stepped down, taking responsibility for the recent hacking incident. Jeong Jae-heon, Chief Governance Officer (CGO), will take over as the new CEO of SK Telecom.

Through this reshuffle, SK aims to quickly address pressing challenges such as strengthening business fundamentals and improving financial structure, while laying the groundwork for future growth through portfolio rebalancing. SK Group explained, "We have selected executives with hands-on experience and R&D capabilities who can solve problems and build customer trust. Next-generation leaders have also been promoted to work alongside the current executive team, ensuring both stability and accelerated change within the organization."
The main features of this reshuffle at SK Group are the appointment of a vice chairman and the full deployment of field-oriented leaders.
First, Lee Hyung-hee has been promoted to Vice Chairman. Since 2023, he has served as Chairman of the Communications Committee at the SUPEX Council. The new Vice Chairman will leverage his extensive experience at SK affiliates and the SUPEX Council to serve as part of the SK Inc. vice chairman group.
There are also some changes within the SUPEX Council. Yoon Poong-young, CEO of SK Inc. AX, will move to serve as President in charge of the SUPEX Council. The new President, Yoon, plans to further strengthen synergy among SK affiliates and accelerate transformation in areas such as artificial intelligence and digitalization.
Yeom Sung-jin, Head of the CR Team, has been promoted and appointed as Chairman of the Communications Committee. He is recognized for raising the group’s overall level of external cooperation. As the new Chairman, Yeom will oversee all external cooperation functions for the group.
Most Promotions from Within... Focus on Field and ExecutionThe emergence of field-oriented leaders is also notable. At the holding company SK Inc., Kang Dong-soo, an expert in finance and business development, has been promoted to President. He will assist President and CEO Jang Yong-ho. Kang is credited with strengthening SK Inc.'s business fundamentals and financial structure.
SK Telecom, which faced controversy due to the hacking incident, has promoted Jeong, the CGO, to President. President Jeong aims to enhance the company’s compliance capabilities and further advance its governance system to build greater trust. Yoo Young-sang, former President of SK Telecom, will now focus on expanding AI within the group as Chairman of the SUPEX Council’s AI Committee. To strengthen competitiveness, SK Telecom has reorganized into a Communications CIC and an AI CIC. Han Myung-Jin, CEO of SK Square, has been appointed as the head of the Communications CIC.
At battery subsidiary SK On, Yong Wook Lee, CEO of SK Siltron, has been appointed as President. Together with President Lee Seok-hee, he will continue to drive structural improvements for sustainable growth in the battery industry. SK On’s parent company, SK Innovation E&S, has named Lee Jong-soo, Head of the LNG Business Division, as President. He will focus on strengthening stable management foundations and seeking new growth in areas such as energy solutions.
SK hynix, which has achieved high profitability with high-bandwidth memory (HBM), has promoted Cha Sun-yong, Head of the Future Technology Research Institute, to President. He will lead the institute across all areas of memory semiconductors.
Additionally, Jongwoo Kim, CEO of subsidiary SK enpulse, has been appointed as President of SKC. Kim Young-sik, Head of Manufacturing at SK hynix, has become the new President of SK ecoplant. At SK Square, Kim Jeong-gyu, Chief Secretary at SK Inc., has been promoted to President.
Song Chang-rok, currently head of SK Inc. Materials CIC, and Wan-Jong Kim, Executive Vice President of SK Inc. AX, have both been promoted to President. At SK Siltron, Jeong Gwangjin, CEO of subsidiary SK Siltron CSS, has been appointed as President, while Kim Seong-su, Head of the Wired and Media Business Division, has become President of SK Broadband.
