[Financial News] The Special Counsel for Insurrection, led by Cho Eun-seok, summoned former People Power Party floor leader Choo Kyung-ho for the first time over allegations that he obstructed participation in the vote to lift the December 3 Martial Law.
Choo arrived at the special counsel's office at the Seoul High Public Prosecutors' Office at approximately 9:54 a.m. on the 30th. He stated, "I will not yield to this outrageous political oppression and will confidently face the special counsel's investigation." He added, "If I had colluded with the President to obstruct the vote on lifting martial law in the National Assembly, why would I have changed the meeting location from the party headquarters to the National Assembly? Why would I have moved to the National Assembly at all?"
However, he did not answer questions regarding why he changed the venue for the party caucus despite witnessing the blockade of the National Assembly, or what was discussed in his phone call with Former President Yoon Suk Yeol, and proceeded directly to the investigation room.
The special counsel charged Choo with major insurrection-related offenses and abuse of authority. According to the special counsel, during the December 3 Martial Law, Choo allegedly changed the venue for the People Power Party's caucus multiple times—from the National Assembly to the party headquarters, then to the National Assembly's Budget Committee Room, and back to the party headquarters—in an attempt to obstruct the vote to lift martial law, thereby participating in Former President Yoon Suk Yeol's insurrection.
So far, the special counsel has continued its investigation by questioning People Power Party lawmakers Cho Kyoung-tae, Kim Yeji, Lee Jong-wook, Shin Dong-wook, and party officials regarding these allegations.
