The Korea Arboreta and Gardens Institute (KAGI) announced on the 30th that it will hold a special exhibition, 'Moving Garden: The Senses of Plants,' at the special exhibition greenhouse of the Sejong National Arboretum from November 1 to May 10 next year.
This special exhibition is designed to showcase plants that move in response to light and vibration, allowing visitors to explore the mysterious senses of plants and experience biodiversity.
The exhibition features a variety of plants, including Calathea and Phalaenopsis, which move in response to light; carnivorous plants such as Dionaea muscipula (Venus flytrap), Nepenthes, and Sarracenia, which capture insects for nutrients; Titan arum and Bulbophyllum, which emit the scent of decaying flesh; and plants like the Telegraph tree and Mimosa pudica, which react to sound vibrations.
In addition, on November 15 and 22 at 2 p.m., a magic performance will be held in front of the special exhibition greenhouse, reinterpreting the way plants sense stimuli such as light, fragrance, and vibration. Notably, through collaboration with Kakao Friends, the characters transformed into gardeners will introduce arboretum and garden culture. Limited edition Kakao Friends merchandise, available only at Sejong National Arboretum in November, will also be released to enhance the visitor experience.
Shin Chang-ho, Director of Sejong National Arboretum, stated, "This special exhibition will be an excellent opportunity to promote the plant content of Sejong National Arboretum in the most accessible way." He added, "We hope many visitors will come to the arboretum, experience the mysterious senses of plants alongside the Kakao Friends characters as gardeners, and fully enjoy the beauty of the gardens."
