[Financial News] The Anti-Corruption Investigation Unit of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency (SMPA) has imposed a travel ban on Kang Ho-dong, Chairman of the National Agricultural Cooperative Federation (NACF), who is suspected of receiving more than 100 million won in bribes.
According to the police on the 30th, the Anti-Corruption Investigation Unit recently placed a travel ban on Chairman Kang under suspicion of bribery in violation of the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes. Kang is accused of receiving funds worth over 100 million won from the head of a service company that does business with NACF affiliates in January last year, when the NACF chairman election was underway.
Police believe that during the period when Kang was the leading candidate, the company’s representative offered the money in exchange for favors. At the time, Kang was running for the NACF chairmanship and was elected in January last year.
On the 15th, police conducted a search and seizure at Kang’s office in the NongHyup Central Headquarters in Jung-gu, Seoul, securing relevant materials. Investigators are currently questioning company officials and others to determine the circumstances of the payment and whether any requests were made in return.
