Korea Railroad Corporation (KORAIL) has launched efforts to support the design of institutional frameworks and talent development to strengthen the construction and operational capabilities of Ho Chi Minh City's urban rail transit network in Vietnam.
KORAIL announced on the 30th that it has successfully completed the 'Knowledge Sharing Program (KSP)' in partnership with the Management Authority for Urban Railways (MAUR) and the Ho Chi Minh City Urban Railway Company (HURC1). The project, which ran for about ten months from January this year, focused on two areas: establishing a legal framework for urban rail transit and setting up a Training Center through the KSP.
In the legal framework initiative, KORAIL proposed the institutionalization of urban rail transit regulations and standards, strategies for attracting investment, and measures to redefine the roles of stakeholders in construction, supervision, and operations. Ho Chi Minh City plans to incorporate KORAIL’s recommendations into its ten ongoing urban rail transit lines.
Through the Training Center project, KORAIL shared its policy and operational expertise in Korean railways by providing executive training, strategies for managing the training center, budget operation plans, and faculty development.
KORAIL held a final report session locally in September to share the outcomes of the project and plans to expand its presence in Vietnam by pursuing follow-up projects related to urban rail transit.
Jinhwan Cho, head of KORAIL’s Overseas Business Division, stated, "Based on the partnerships established through this project, we aim to strengthen our position in Vietnam’s railway industry and create new opportunities in future high-speed rail projects as well."
