The Special Prosecutor Team for Insurrection and Treason, led by Cho Eun-seok, is expected to wrap up its investigation into foreign exchange allegations related to the December 3 Martial Law by next month.
On the afternoon of the 29th, Park Ji-young, Assistant Special Prosecutor, stated at a regular briefing held at the Seoul High Prosecutors' Office, "It may take some time to finalize the scope of suspects and the facts of the crime," adding, "It appears the case will be resolved sometime in November."
The Special Prosecutor Team previously announced, after summoning former President Yoon Suk Yeol for questioning on the 15th, that the investigation into the foreign exchange charges would be concluded within this month. Park Ji-young explained, "In the process of disputing the facts, if there are areas that require further verification, we are recalling individuals for additional questioning as needed."
She further noted, "The foreign exchange aspect involves national interests, so we are carefully considering those interests and cross-checking as we establish the relevant criminal facts. Internally, we are also engaging in intense discussions to determine whether the established facts are supported by evidence, and we are supplementing any areas that require additional proof."
The Special Prosecutor Team is investigating allegations that former President Yoon Suk Yeol sent an unmanned aerial vehicle to Pyongyang to provoke an attack from the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) in order to justify the December 3 Martial Law.
It is also reported that the team is charging those involved in the Pyongyang drone infiltration operation with the general crime of aiding the enemy. This offense punishes acts that harm the military interests of the Republic of Korea or provide military advantages to an enemy state.
According to the Special Prosecutor Team, Kim Yong-hyun, former Minister of National Defense (MND), oversaw the operation, while Kim Yong-dae, former Commander of Drone Operations, executed the mission under the direction of Lee Seung-oh, Chief of Operations at the Republic of Korea Joint Chiefs of Staff (ROK JCS).
The Special Prosecutor Team suspects that former President Yoon Suk Yeol gave the final approval for the operation. It is also reported that former Commander Kim personally delivered the so-called 'Presidential Report' in Yongsan District.
