"Gyeongju, where the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leaders' Meeting will be held, is transforming into a movie street powered by advanced technology!"
The Gyeongsangbuk-do Provincial Government announced on the 29th that it will operate the 'Artificial Intelligence (AI)·Extended Reality (XR) Alley Cinema' around Hwangnidan Street in Gyeongju for five days until the 2nd of next month.
This event is being held to coincide with the 2025 APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting and has been organized as a Gyeongsangbuk-do style media festival that fuses advanced technology with arts and culture.
Choi Hyeokjun, Director of the Meta AI Science Bureau, emphasized, "We hope that both domestic and international visitors to Gyeongju during APEC will fully enjoy the convergence technologies blended with Gyeongbuk’s cultural heritage."
The Alley Cinema is an expanded program of the 'Gyeongbuk International AI & Metaverse Film Festival (GAMFF)' and introduces domestic and international visitors to new trends in visual arts created by AI and XR technologies.
During the Alley Cinema, a variety of programs will take place at the Hwangnam-dong Tumuli Cluster (Meta Movie Park) and throughout Hwangnidan Street (Golden Cine Town), featuring film screenings using AI and XR technologies as well as nighttime landscape lighting.
The screenings will include 35 outstanding works from the AI video contest of the Gyeongbuk International AI & Metaverse Film Festival, commercial films, dramas, 'The King of Kings'—which won the Special Jury Prize at the AI Art Tech Awards for its use of AI and visual effects—and eight AI films produced by the Gyeongbuk Research Institute.
The Alley Cinema will be operated in two zones: Meta Movie Park (Hwangnam-dong Tumuli Cluster) and Golden Cine Town (Hwangnidan Street area).
At Meta Movie Park, a special air-dome 'Metadome Theater' will be installed, creating an immersive screening experience for visitors.
Golden Cine Town will operate at a total of nine locations, offering a variety of viewing experiences through four themed cinemas.
Visitors will not only watch films but also explore the alleys and collect Augmented Reality (AR) content through interactive mission programs, allowing them to experience the unique fun of convergence technology in Gyeongju.
