[Financial News] The Gwacheon National Science Museum announced on the 29th that it will hold a special Supermoon observation event on November 5, where visitors can observe the closest and largest full moon since 2019.
This year's largest full moon will appear about 14% bigger than the smallest full moon, which occurred on April 13. When the distance between the Earth and the Moon is shortest, the Moon appears larger. The full moon on November 5 will pass its closest point to Earth (perigee), making it the biggest and brightest full moon of the year.
The special event will take place at the Gwacheon National Science Museum on November 5 from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Programs include Supermoon telescope viewing, writing wish letters, hands-on activities related to the Moon and astronomy, and planetarium screenings—all centered around the Moon.
Participants will be able to observe the largest full moon of the year through the observatory's telescope, and can also photograph the Supermoon with their own mobile phones using practice telescopes set up outdoors.
The event will feature various hands-on booths, including wish letter writing and Moon-themed crafts. For the wish letter activity, participants can write their wishes and decorate a tree with their letters.
In the Planetarium, Moon-themed videos will be screened, allowing visitors to enjoy a comprehensive Moon-themed program that includes telescope viewing, crafts, and video experiences.
The Planetarium program (20-minute lecture and 20-minute video screening) requires a paid advance reservation (1,000 KRW), while all other programs are free and open to walk-in participants. Reservations open at 9 a.m. on October 29 through the Gwacheon National Science Museum website and are first-come, first-served. On the day of the event, the first 300 visitors will receive full moon bread. The program is recommended for ages 7 and up (children aged 7–13 must be accompanied by a guardian), and is open to everyone.
