[Financial News Gyeongju = Kim Jang-uk] On the day before U.S. President Donald Trump's visit, the area surrounding the APEC Summit Venue and accommodations in the Bomun Tourist Complex in Gyeongju, where the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit is to be held, was marked by heightened security and a sense of tension.
Contrary to expectations, when visiting the Bomun Tourist Complex in Gyeongju on the 28th, there were no restrictions on private vehicles or public access. While private vehicles, police, and security vehicles moved busily, the overall atmosphere in the area remained very quiet.
Steel fences have been installed along most sidewalks around the Bomun Tourist Complex, where the APEC Summit Venue and accommodations for world leaders are located.
On the roads, luxury vehicles with license plates displaying various national languages and flags could be seen moving under the escort of sidecar security teams.
Ambulances and police cars also frequently patrolled the area surrounding the APEC Summit Venue.
Some accommodations within the Bomun Tourist Complex have been designated as bases for security and safety authorities. Special vehicles belonging to the KNP Special Operations Unit (KNP SOU) have been deployed in parking lots with structures that are not easily visible from outside.
A police official stated, "We have not received any specific instructions regarding public access," and added, "However, starting tomorrow, many KNP SOU vehicles are expected to be deployed throughout the area, and security and safety measures will be further strengthened."
