[Financial News] The court has granted permission for photography of Kwon Seong-dong, a People Power Party lawmaker who is on trial for allegedly receiving illegal political funds from the Unification Church.
The Criminal Division 27 of the Seoul Central District Court (Presiding Judge Woo In-seong) has approved courtroom photography for the first hearing of Kwon’s case on charges of violating the Political Funds Act, scheduled for 5 p.m. on the 28th.
According to Supreme Court of Korea regulations, photography is limited to before the start of the trial, and shooting from the judge’s bench or causing disturbances is strictly prohibited.
Kwon is accused of meeting Yoon Young-ho, former head of the Unification Church World Headquarters, at a Chinese restaurant in Yeouido on January 5, 2022, prior to the 20th South Korean Presidential Election, and receiving 100 million won in cash. It is also understood that Yoon requested Kwon to promote the Unification Church’s policies as national policy and to assist with various church-related matters.
Additionally, Kwon faces allegations of using national resources such as budgets and government organizations to support Unification Church interests, as well as providing information on the investigation into overseas gambling by Unification Church leader Hak Ja Han, thereby aiding in the destruction of evidence.
