[Financial News] The Special Prosecutor Team for Insurrection and Treason, led by Cho Eun-seok, has launched a compulsory investigation into former Prime Minister Hwang Kyo-ahn.
On the 27th, the special prosecutor team began a search and seizure targeting Hwang, who is under suspicion of inciting insurrection. Hwang is being investigated as a suspect. Prosecutors and investigators were reportedly dispatched to the scene and are currently engaged in a standoff.
This search and seizure stems from a case in which a civic group accused Hwang of incitement to insurrection and filed a complaint with the National Office of Investigation. The police referred the case to the special prosecutor, who has continued the investigation.
Previously, on March 5, ahead of the Constitutional Court of Korea’s ruling on the impeachment of former President Yoon Suk Yeol, Hwang submitted a petition to the court, warning that 'if the impeachment is upheld, uncontrollable riots will erupt.' In response, the civic group Candlelight Victory Transition Action filed a complaint against Hwang in March, stating, 'Ahead of the impeachment ruling for former President Yoon Suk Yeol, threats against the Constitutional Court, incitement, and agitation by insurrectionist forces have reached a serious level.'
In addition, the special prosecutor has reportedly launched a compulsory investigation to comprehensively address several other complaints that had been filed with the police.
