[The Financial News] Lectures by world-renowned AI scholars, offering insights into the present and future of artificial intelligence (AI) research, will be held in Seoul.
The Ministry of Science and ICT (MSIT) announced that it will host the 'Global AI Frontiers Symposium 2025' on the 27th at Seoul Dragon City, aiming to share the latest research achievements in AI and explore avenues for international cooperation.
This symposium serves as a platform for international collaborative research, bringing together leading domestic and international AI scholars and researchers affiliated with the National AI Research Lab and the Global AI Frontier Lab. Participants will share major research outcomes and engage in in-depth discussions on future research directions, the vision for AI, and topics such as safety and trust.
The first session will feature keynote speeches from globally recognized AI experts, offering perspectives on the current state and future of AI research. Yann LeCun, Professor at the Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences at New York University and Chief AI Scientist at Meta, will speak on 'World Model Learning.' Yejin Choi, Professor at Stanford University, will deliver a keynote on 'Democratization of Generative AI: Beyond Scaling Laws.' Yann LeCun is regarded as one of the four leading figures in AI, alongside Geoffrey Hinton of the University of Toronto, Yoshua Bengio of the University of Montreal, and Andrew Ng of Stanford University. He also serves as co-director of the Global AI Frontier Lab, which was established at New York University in September last year as a joint Korea-U.S. AI research hub. In 2018, he received the Turing Award, often referred to as the 'Nobel Prize of Computer Science.'
A roundtable of AI scholars will also take place, chaired by Vice Minister Bae Kyung-hoon, with participants including Yann LeCun, Yejin Choi, Kyunghyun Cho (co-director of the Global AI Frontier Lab and Professor at NYU), and Kee-Eung Kim (Director of the National AI Research Lab and Professor at KAIST). The discussion will broadly cover AI governance, the current and future state of AI technology, and the social impact of AI advancements.
The second session of the symposium will focus on sharing the outcomes and advanced research directions of joint projects led by the National AI Research Lab and the Global AI Frontier Lab. In the National AI Research Lab session, researchers from Japan, France, the UAE, and Korea will present various achievements in next-generation AI foundational research and physical AI for real-world autonomy. The Global AI Frontier Lab session will feature presentations from NYU, Yonsei University, and others on new core AI algorithms and trustworthy AI. The latest research trends in advanced AI applications for healthcare and robotics will also be introduced.
On the 28th and 29th, the 'Global AI Frontier Lab Workshop' will be held, where Korean and U.S. researchers will share their current research and seek future directions in core AI algorithms, AI trust and responsibility, and AI healthcare.
Vice Minister Bae Kyung-hoon stated, "This symposium will serve as a significant milestone for Korean AI research to reach a global level, as world-class AI scholars and domestic researchers gather in one place to pioneer new frontiers in AI technology." He added, "MSIT will continue to strengthen the international competitiveness of domestic AI research and accelerate the establishment of a global AI research collaboration ecosystem."
