The Ministry of Science and ICT (MSIT) announced on the 26th that it will hold a 'Research and Development Innovation Roundtable for the Honam Region' at Chonnam National University (CNU) on the 27th. The event will be attended by approximately 70 participants, including Kim Yong-beom, Chief Policy Officer at the Presidential Office, Park Inkyu, Head of the Science and Technology Innovation Office at MSIT, as well as leading researchers and research support staff from the Honam region.
MSIT is preparing the 'Innovation Plan for the R&D Ecosystem' to establish a foundation that enables bold challenges by researchers and to create a system that supports both individual and national growth. Notably, this plan has actively incorporated feedback from various research sites throughout the entire process, from identifying issues to developing solutions.
The roundtable will begin with a presentation on the main policy directions of the innovation plan, which MSIT has developed based on ongoing field communication. Participants will then evaluate the policies from a field perspective and share their diverse opinions. Key topics expected to be discussed include reforming evaluation systems to encourage challenge and creativity without fear of failure, reducing unnecessary administrative procedures outside of research, and providing stable, predictable government R&D investments centered on user needs.
Park Inkyu, Head of the Science and Technology Innovation Office, emphasized, "In an era of technological hegemony driven by Artificial Intelligence (AI) and advanced technologies, it is more important than ever to build an R&D ecosystem that fosters technology-led growth based on researchers' creativity and spirit of challenge." He added, "We will continue to transition to an innovation ecosystem where growth for researchers and field experts leads to national growth, moving beyond a government-led R&D system and upholding the principles of expertise, autonomy, and sustainability."
MSIT plans to incorporate the diverse opinions presented at this roundtable and announce the 'Innovation Plan for the R&D Ecosystem' in November of this year.
