A man in his 40s was sentenced to prison for assaulting a man in his 70s on the subway after being asked to sit down immediately. It was revealed that he had previously punched a woman in her 70s on the subway as well.
On the 26th, Byun Sung-hwan, a judge at the Busan District Court Criminal Division 4, announced that he had sentenced a man in his 40s, identified as A, to six months in prison for assaulting another passenger on the subway.
A was indicted for punching a man in his 70s, identified as B, in the face after B asked him to sit down immediately on a Busan Metro Line 3 train at Yeonsan Station at around 5:50 p.m. on April 7 last year.
B suffered injuries, including a fractured bone around his eye, requiring four weeks of medical treatment.
Judge Byun stated, "The victim’s injuries are not minor, yet no effort has been made to compensate for the harm." He added, "Furthermore, considering that the defendant previously struck a 72-year-old woman in the face on the subway, causing facial contusions, the sentence was determined accordingly."
