[Financial News] Kakao Corporation has recently implemented an artificial intelligence (AI) summary feature in KakaoTalk.
According to industry sources on the 26th, Kakao Corporation has updated KakaoTalk to version 25.9.1, officially adding a feature where its AI service, Kanana, summarizes unread messages.
Kanana summarizes messages in a single chat room that has at least five unread messages received within the last 24 hours.
The criteria for summary are provided to users via tooltips, and any changes to these criteria will be reflected in the tooltip text. Kakao Corporation plans to continually evaluate user feedback and the feature’s usefulness to further enhance it. Expanding the number of chat rooms eligible for summarization is also under consideration.
This update also brings changes to Open Chat community conversations and the emoji tab. Users can now search for keywords in the Open Chat tab to find relevant community discussions. In the emoji tab, default emojis can be sent as mini-caps, and users can search for emojis through the search tab.
The update also includes a renewal of the previously provided 116 default emojis, now offering 126 mini emojis that can be used in the mini tab.
Additionally, Kakao Corporation has announced that ChatGPT will be integrated into KakaoTalk on the 28th. By tapping the ChatGPT icon at the top of KakaoTalk, users will be able to access the OpenAI GPT-5 model without installing a separate app. During conversations, users can tap a speech bubble to ask questions to ChatGPT. Various Kakao services such as gifting, reservations, Kakao Map, and Melon will also be accessible through ChatGPT integration.
Meanwhile, the Friends tab, which received criticism after a major overhaul last September, is expected to be restored to its original state within the fourth quarter of this year as planned. Kakao Corporation has previously stated that a technical rollback to a previous version is virtually impossible.
