According to The Financial News, a man in his 20s has been sentenced to prison after he overturned a table at a bar without any apparent reason, causing burns to a coworker.
On the 26th, Judge Kang Hyun-ho of the Cheongju District Court Criminal Division 4 announced that the defendant, a man in his 20s identified as A, was sentenced to three years in prison on charges of aggravated assault.
A was put on trial for causing burns that required six months of treatment to his coworker, B, also in his 20s, at a bar in Ochang-eup, Cheongwon-gu, Cheongju-si, around 4 a.m. on October 16 last year.
At the time, A was reportedly intoxicated and flipped the table for no particular reason, causing boiling Clam Soup (Jogaetang) on the table to spill onto B.
It was also confirmed that A had previous convictions for causing disturbances in a taxi while drunk and for choking a passerby on the street.
Judge Kang stated, "The defendant inflicted serious injury on the victim, who did nothing wrong, and the nature of the crime is extremely poor. The victim has suffered significant psychological trauma, such as feeling anxious whenever seeing hot food since the incident, and has requested severe punishment for the defendant. These factors were taken into account in determining the sentence."
