Jeonbuk State has completed the Gui Water Leisure Complex and is now working to promote inland water sports tourism.
According to Jeonbuk State, a completion ceremony for the water leisure complex was held on the 23rd in Wongi-ri, Gui-myeon, Wanju County.
The complex is a large-scale project that has been underway for nine years since 2017, with an investment of 14.6 billion KRW. Built on a 10,585-square-meter site, it features the Water Leisure Sports Safety Education Center, mooring facilities, parking lots, and various amenities.
Notably, the main building, the Water Leisure Sports Safety Education Center, will offer hands-on and educational programs focused on non-motorized water leisure equipment such as canoes and kayaks. The facility will serve as a multi-purpose leisure space near the water.
Jeonbuk State plans to link the Gui Water Leisure Complex with the Metropolitan Marine Leisure Experience Complex currently under development on Munyeodo Island, aiming to establish the Jeonbuk-Style Water Leisure Tourism Belt that connects coastal and inland areas.
Through these efforts, the province seeks to attract more tourists, revitalize the local economy, and strengthen the foundation of the water leisure sports industry.
The province will develop experiential, educational, and therapeutic programs, aiming to launch full-scale operations in the first half of next year. By building an efficient management system, it intends to ensure sustainable revenue and encourage repeat visits.
Kim Jong-hoon, Vice Governor for Economic Affairs of Jeonbuk State, stated, “The Gui Water Leisure Complex will become a hub for inland water leisure sports, going beyond a simple recreational facility to improve the quality of life for local residents and boost the regional economy through mutual growth. We will continue to develop new content and enhance operations to increase visitor satisfaction and establish Jeonbuk as a premier destination for water leisure sports.”
