[Financial News] The National Assembly's Legislation and Judiciary Committee, led by the ruling party, has decided to file a perjury charge against former 1st Marine Division commander Im Seong-geun.
On the morning of the 23rd, prior to the Parliamentary Inspection of the Administration, the committee tabled and passed a motion to accuse Im of perjury as a witness. Out of 17 committee members, 10 voted in favor, 6 opposed, and 1 abstained.
During the military court's Parliamentary Inspection of the Administration on the 17th, Im Seong-geun testified that he "could not remember the password to his mobile phone." Since 2023, when the suspicion first arose, Im has consistently maintained this position. However, three days later, he told the Chae Sang-byeong Special Prosecutor Team (led by Lee Myeong-hyeon) that "the password miraculously came to mind" and provided it. The committee concluded that Im's actions were deliberate and constituted perjury.
The committee also determined that Im Seong-geun committed perjury when he stated that he did not know Lee Jong-ho, the former CEO of Black Pearl Investment, who is under suspicion of lobbying for a rescue.
In early September, during an investigation by the Special Prosecutor Team, actor Park Sung-woong testified that he had dined with both Lee Jong-ho and Im Seong-geun. However, to date, both men maintain that they have never met.
