[New Book] Futbolitica

[Financial News] 'Futbolitica' is a term coined by combining the Catalan words for football (futbol) and politics (politica), used in the region of Barcelona, Spain. The author, who hails from Barcelona, argues that football is a sport with clear political implications.
For example, football clubs symbolize national identity. Futbol Club Barcelona (FC Barcelona) is deeply intertwined with the history of Catalonia. At one time, the club served as a symbol of resistance against the Francoist dictatorship (1939–1975) in Spain and also represented the movement for Catalan independence.
The author interprets global political history and social movements through the lens of football. He highlights African teams that dreamed of liberation from colonial rule and sheds light on the struggles of refugees through the Palestine national football team. The book also explores how the aspirations of workers are reflected in football clubs.
