[Financial News] Unity, the game and content development platform, announced on the 22nd that the latest version of its Unity engine, 'Unity 6,' will officially support the development of Android XR apps for Samsung's newly unveiled extended reality (XR) headset, 'Galaxy XR.'
Unity-based content revealed alongside the launch of Samsung Galaxy XR includes Google Maps Immersive View for Android XR and Unity, NFL PRO ERA, and Inside Job.
Developed by Google using Unity, 'Google Maps Immersive View for Android XR and Unity' is an app that allows users to explore locations in detailed 3D environments through its 'Immersive View' feature.
'NFL PRO ERA,' developed by StatusPRO, is the first virtual reality simulation game officially licensed by the National Football League (NFL). It will be released for Android XR, as well as Meta Quest, PlayStation VR (PS VR), and PC.
'Inside Job,' developed by Owlchemy Labs, is a mixed reality (MR) content title. The company's other popular works have also been ported to the Android XR ecosystem through Unity.
Alex Blum, COO of Unity, stated, "Through close collaboration with Google and Samsung, we integrated Android XR development tools into Unity 6 from the early stages and completed validation with developers in real production environments even before the official release. Unity is not just optimizing for a single headset but is building an open and expandable Android XR ecosystem, enabling developers to confidently reach more markets with less effort."
