LG Uplus Corp. announced on the 22nd that it will establish additional telecommunications facilities and operate a dedicated situation room at major sites throughout Gyeongju in preparation for the large crowds expected at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leaders' Meeting (APEC Summit) to be held in Gyeongju next week. The company plans to deliver optimal communication quality to ensure the APEC Summit proceeds smoothly and without inconvenience.
With more than 20,000 participants anticipated at the APEC Summit, LG Uplus Corp. has installed additional 5G and LTE equipment in key areas to prevent any communication disruptions. In particular, the company focused on expanding coverage at major accommodations and landmarks such as Cheomseongdae, Commodore Hotel, and Hanwha Resorts, where many delegates are expected to stay, ensuring seamless data and voice services.
Temporary telecommunications equipment was set up at the Media Center, which will serve as the APEC press conference venue, to eliminate any coverage blind spots. In addition, extra Wi-Fi access points were installed around Hwangnyongwon, the site of the APEC CEO Summit family dinner, to provide uninterrupted internet access for international visitors.
LG Uplus Corp. will monitor facilities 24 hours a day and operate a local situation room to respond swiftly to any emergencies. Staff will be on standby at the site to address any issues immediately, and a mobile base station will be deployed near the main APEC venue, Gyeongju Hwabaek International Convention Center (HICO).
Additionally, mobile base stations will be set up at Yeongildae Beach in Pohang, where the APEC commemorative fireworks show will take place, and near Pohang Yeongilman Port, where cruise ships for accommodation are docked. Temporary communication facilities will also be operated at some locations to ensure a stable network environment.
Sung-Ju Roh, head of the NW Infrastructure Operations Group at LG Uplus Corp., stated, “Since key figures from around the world are attending APEC, we have implemented a variety of measures to ensure optimal communication quality. We will closely monitor and respond throughout the event to ensure every aspect concludes successfully.”
