[Financial News] This is a post uploaded yesterday (the 20th) on social media by a fan of Oasis, the icons of British Britpop.
Oasis will hold their concert in Korea today (the 21st) at Goyang Stadium in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province. This marks their first performance in Korea in 16 years since 2009.
Formed in 1991, Oasis is a world-renowned rock band that has sold over 90 million albums worldwide, with all seven studio albums topping the UK charts. They are known for hits familiar to Korean fans, such as 'Don’t Look Back in Anger' and 'Live Forever.' However, the band disbanded in 2009 due to conflicts between brothers Noel and Liam Gallagher. Both continued with solo careers, but last August, news of their sudden reunion captured the attention of fans worldwide.
The first show of their world tour in the UK this July sold out as soon as tickets went on sale, with scalpers proving their enduring popularity. Korean fans also showed great anticipation, selling out tickets on the first day of local sales. More than 11,000 people visited the official Oasis pop-up store in Seoul, which operated from the 16th to the 26th of this month.
Oasis first visited Korea in 2006 and returned twice in 2009. Even after the breakup, the Gallagher brothers continued to perform in Korea under their own names. Liam held concerts in 2011 and 2017, while Noel has regularly met Korean fans since his first solo visit in 2012, including last year.
Notably, during his 2019 visit, Noel remarked, “Korea is one of the countries I most want to perform in,” adding, “I regret that Oasis never made it to Korea during our heyday,” which was met with enthusiastic cheers from fans.
Since their reunion, the brothers have refrained from joint interviews with the media. According to Billboard Canada last year, Liam stated, “We won’t do joint interviews. I’m afraid the media will ask probing questions about our relationship as brothers.”
Noel, Oasis’s lead guitarist and principal songwriter, shared his thoughts on reuniting with his brother for the tour, saying, “It feels really great.” According to The Guardian in August, Noel commented, “Liam (the main vocalist of Oasis) is doing an amazing job. It’s wonderful to be back together as a band.” He also recalled being surprised by the fans’ reactions at the first show in Cardiff in July, saying, “I’ve played stadium shows many times, but during the second song, my legs turned to jelly.” He added, “For the audience, every show is their first day, so the energy is incredible. It was truly an amazing experience.”
