[The Financial News] The autopsy of the body of a university student, who was found dead after being kidnapped by a criminal organization in the Kingdom of Cambodia, has been completed.
The Korean National Police Agency (KNPA) announced on the 20th that the autopsy to determine the cause of death of Mr. A was conducted until around 1:30 p.m. (local time) that day.
Addressing speculation about possible organ removal or further crimes, the police stated, "No evidence of mutilation was found on Mr. A's body."
The autopsy was conducted from around 10:35 a.m. at Tuk Thla Temple in Phnom Penh. The investigation involved cooperation between the two countries' law enforcement agencies, following a request for mutual legal assistance by the KNPA through the Ministry of Justice (MOJ) to the Kingdom of Cambodia.
The Korean side included two officials from the KNPA Scientific Investigation Division and Gyeongbuk Provincial Police Agency, three forensic pathologists from the NFS, and one prosecutor from the MOJ International Criminal Affairs Division, totaling six participants. The Kingdom of Cambodia side was represented by six officials, including police and medical personnel.
Authorities plan to promptly repatriate the remains to Korea in consultation with the Kingdom of Cambodia. The exact cause of Mr. A’s death will be determined after reviewing the results of ongoing investigations in both countries, as well as additional histological and toxicological examinations scheduled in Korea.
