An AI Factory refers to an autonomous system in which artificial intelligence analyzes data in real time and independently optimizes production processes. With this selection, Kolmar Korea will develop an AI-based autonomous manufacturing system that integrates its cosmetics production processes.
Kolmar Korea plans to modularize each process, including production planning, manufacturing, quality control, and filling and packaging, and to raise process accuracy to over 95%, a world-class level, through optimized AI models. The transition to an AI Factory will enable flexible small-batch, multi-product manufacturing, allowing the company to respond quickly to diverse client demands.
The project will run until December 2029. As the lead company, Kolmar Korea will participate in the bio division of the AI Factory Alliance, spearheading the AI transformation (AX) of the cosmetics manufacturing sector. Key objectives include building a platform that integrates and connects cosmetics production data and developing autonomous process control AI models to enhance quality and process accuracy.
Recently, there has been a growing consensus that transitioning to an AI Factory is essential for K-beauty to establish itself as a global standard. Kolmar Korea plans to share its AI Factory success stories so that other domestic cosmetics companies can benefit. This is expected to boost productivity and accelerate innovation across the Korean cosmetics manufacturing industry.
Since 2019, Kolmar Korea has established a Smart Factory system, completing the processing of all source data. As a result, the company has reduced the defect rate in manufacturing processes by 42% compared to previous levels. By evolving from a Smart Factory to an AI Factory, Kolmar Korea expects to further reduce rework and establish an advanced manufacturing system optimized for small-batch, multi-product production.
A Kolmar Korea representative stated, “Being selected as the only cosmetics company to lead the AI Factory project recognizes our technological prowess and innovative capabilities. Through an AI-based autonomous manufacturing system, we will strengthen the global competitiveness of K-beauty and elevate the standards of domestic cosmetics manufacturing technology.”
