[Financial News] A man in his 30s who murdered his entire family—his father, mother, and older brother—testified that he included his mother among the victims because he thought she would have a hard time if left alone.
According to the legal community on the 20th, Criminal Division 1, Bucheon Branch, Incheon District Court (Presiding Judge Yeo Hyeon-jeong) recently asked Mr. A (36), who was indicted and detained on murder charges, 'There was a considerable amount of time between killing your brother and father and then your mother. Why did you commit the crime against your mother as well?' Mr. A responded accordingly.
He stated, "I thought my mother would suffer too much if she was left alone all of a sudden, so I wished for this family to end altogether. I did not hold any resentment toward my mother or father."
Mr. A explained, "After entering university, I lived alone for a long time, but recently started living with my family again at my mother's suggestion. My parents worried about me, but my brother was always violent toward me."
He added, "Now that I am much older, my brother continued to try to resolve things violently, and I think I finally snapped."
The Prosecution Service requested the death penalty and a 10-year order to wear an ankle monitor, arguing that Mr. A should be permanently isolated from society. The defense countered by asking the court to consider that the defendant is remorseful and appears to need treatment for a mental disorder.
The verdict is scheduled to be delivered in the same courtroom on November 26. Mr. A was brought to trial for fatally stabbing his parents, both in their 60s and 70s, and his brother in his 30s at their home in Haseong-myeon, Gimpo, around 11 a.m. on July 10.
According to the indictment, on the day of the incident, Mr. A became angry when his mother, in tears, expressed concern for him. He thought, 'Why is she bothering me while I’m resting?' and struck the wall with his bare hands before hitting his mother on the head.
Mr. A, who worked as a freelance web programmer, reportedly lost his income recently and had been living with his family since June.
After injuring his hand, Mr. A was taken to the emergency room with his brother by a 119 Emergency Medical Technician. While receiving treatment, his brother threatened, 'If you do that again, I’ll kill you,' which led to an argument. Mr. A soon returned home.
On his way home, Mr. A searched for keywords such as 'mental illness' and 'murder' on his mobile phone and read related articles.
Later, Mr. A approached his brother, who was using the computer at home, and fatally stabbed him. He then killed his father, who witnessed the crime, and two hours later (around 1 p.m. that day), murdered his mother when she returned home.
The following morning, on the 11th, police responded to a report from an acquaintance who discovered bloodstains in front of the entrance. Officers entered the house and immediately arrested Mr. A.
