At approximately 9:02 a.m. on the 17th, Cho Tae-yong arrived at the prosecutor's office. When asked by reporters what he intended to clarify, he stated, "I will answer the questions sincerely."
The team suspects that on December 3 of last year, after hearing about Yoon Suk Yeol's plan to declare martial law at the Office of the President of South Korea, Cho Tae-yong failed to report this to the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea.
According to Article 15 of the National Intelligence Service Korea Act, the NIS director is required to promptly report to the president and the National Assembly Intelligence Committee if a situation arises that significantly affects national security.
It was reported that the team could not find any record of communication between Cho Tae-yong and members of the National Assembly Intelligence Committee from the time he arrived at the Office of the President of South Korea around 9 p.m. on the day of the incident, after hearing Yoon Suk Yeol's plan to declare martial law, until about 1 a.m. the next day when the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea passed a resolution to lift martial law.
The special prosecutor's team had previously questioned Cho Tae-yong on the 15th. He was reported to have actively cooperated with the investigation at that time.
As the NIS director responsible for overseeing national classified information, Cho Tae-yong is accused of being involved in the circumstances surrounding the December 3 martial law declaration.
