[Financial News] Two more Koreans detained in the Kingdom of Cambodia have been repatriated via a national carrier. With this, four out of 63 detainees have now returned, leaving 59 still in custody.
According to the Korean National Police Agency (KNPA) on the 17th, two Koreans who had been held by the General Department of Immigration in the Kingdom of Cambodia returned to Korea this morning through Incheon International Airport.
They were reportedly apprehended during a crackdown on criminal compounds by the Cambodian National Police.
A police official stated, "We are continuing discussions to expedite the repatriation of the remaining detainees," adding, "Nothing has been finalized yet."
Previously, the Cambodian National Police issued a statement saying that 59 detained Koreans would be deported to their home country on the 17th (local time). However, the KNPA clarified that this was a unilateral announcement by the Cambodian authorities and that negotiations with the Cambodian National Police are ongoing.
The government is reportedly coordinating with local authorities to deploy a charter flight in order to bring back all detained Koreans at once.
