Jin Young-seung, ROK JCS Chairman, Holds First Coordination Calls with U.S. and Japanese Counterparts Since Taking Office

Jin Young-seung, since his inauguration on September 30, has for the first time conducted coordination calls with the U.S. Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, followed by the Chief of Staff, Joint Staff of Japan.
According to the ROK JCS, Chairman Jin held a coordination call with John Daniel Caine, Chairman of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff, in the morning of the 17th, and is scheduled to speak with Hiroaki Uchikura, Chief of Staff, Joint Staff of Japan, in the afternoon.
During the call, Chairman Jin extended his greetings to Chairman Caine and discussed the current security situation and cooperation measures. Both sides agreed that the security situation on the Korean Peninsula remains stable based on the robust ROK-US Alliance, and emphasized the importance of deterring North Korean threats through the combined defense posture.
They also agreed to further strengthen the alliance and discuss key issues at the upcoming ROK-US Military Committee Meeting (MCM) to be held in Korea next month.
In the afternoon, Chairman Jin is scheduled to speak with Chief of Staff Uchikura. The call will include congratulatory remarks on his inauguration and focus on the need for cooperation between the JCS and Japan’s Joint Staff Office to build on the achievements of recent high-level exchanges, including the Korea-Japan Summit and the Defense Ministers' Meeting.
The ROK JCS noted that both sides will emphasize the importance of maintaining momentum in Korea-Japan and South Korea-U.S.-Japan security cooperation and expanding areas of collaboration through continued communication.
