The Walt Disney Company Korea announced on the 15th that, in collaboration with Make-A-Wish Korea, it has created a child-friendly environment in the pediatric ward of Samsung Medical Center (SMC) by installing Disney, Pixar Animation Studios, and Marvel Entertainment character artworks. This project was designed to help children visiting the ward receive treatment and care in a more comfortable and welcoming atmosphere, providing psychological comfort.
This initiative is part of the global Disney Children's Hospital Initiative led by The Walt Disney Company. It marks the first time Disney Korea has installed popular Disney character artworks in a domestic pediatric ward to create a child-friendly space.
At the entrance to the 7th floor pediatric ward, major characters from Inside Out—Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear, and Disgust—are featured in vibrant artwork. The west wing is decorated with character art from Mickey and Friends, Toy Story, and Monsters, Inc. along the corridors and observation room walls, creating a cheerful atmosphere. In the east wing, artworks from WALL-E, Lilo & Stitch, Big Hero 6, and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse have been installed, allowing children to receive treatment in a more comfortable and calming setting. The lounge windows are adorned with artwork of beloved Disney characters such as Winnie-the-Pooh and his friends Piglet, Eeyore, and Tigger, as well as Nick Wilde and Judy Hopps from Zootopia, and characters from Bambi, adding a refreshing touch. Additionally, a television has been installed so that patients and their families can watch Disney content, providing a space for psychological comfort and imagination.
On the 13th, the lounge hosted a wish-granting event for Wish Kid brothers Moon Juha and Judam. In celebration of this special moment for the two brothers, who have bravely continued their long treatment journey, other children and families in the ward joined in, sharing laughter and encouragement in a heartwarming atmosphere. The event featured a magic show and gift-giving, and a surprise visit from Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse made the day unforgettable for the children and their families.
Kim So-yeon, CEO of Disney Korea, stated, “We are deeply honored to deliver hope and comfort to children and families who must undergo extended treatment in the hospital through this project, which aligns with Disney's global Children's Hospital Initiative. We will continue to provide positive experiences for patients and their families, harnessing the power of Disney storytelling.”
Song Young-dae, Secretary General of Make-A-Wish Korea, remarked, “This project is meaningful in that it transforms the hospital—where children with critical illnesses spend the most time—into a place of healing and comfort, offering them the experience that dreams can come true. Based on our long-standing global partnership with Disney, we will continue our efforts in Korea to help children dream bigger and grow up healthy.”
Kangmo Ahn, Director of the Pediatric and Adolescent Center at SMC, commented, “Thanks to the collaboration between Disney Korea and Make-A-Wish Korea, children are now able to find comfort and strength even during their hospital stay. We will continue to do our utmost to improve the treatment environment for our young patients.”
