[Financial News] "It's so similar to the Kingdom of Cambodia incident." The Wavve original drama 'No Mercy' is drawing such reactions for depicting a storyline reminiscent of the recent high-profit overseas job scam that occurred in the Kingdom of Cambodia.
As the 'high-profit overseas employment' scam in the Kingdom of Cambodia has caused a social shock, the Dramax X Wavve original 'No Mercy' is gaining attention for its seemingly prescient plot. Viewers have expressed surprise at the drama's realism, saying, "It's just like the Kingdom of Cambodia incident," and "It's more like news than the news itself."
'No Mercy' tells the story of So-min (played by Lee Joo-young), an unknown actress whose family loses everything to a phishing scam. She infiltrates the massive voice phishing organization Ilseongpa, embarking on a lonely and courageous quest for revenge on behalf of her mother. The drama exposes a dark world where young people are deceived with promises of 'high-profit overseas jobs,' sold to criminal organizations, and forced into phishing crimes.
In the drama, the criminal group Ilseongpa lures young people by promising 'monthly earnings of 8 to 15 million won' through broker Mr. Kim. However, upon arrival, they are subjected to violence and torture and are forced to participate in 'voice phishing scams impersonating government officials.' Those who attempt to escape are recaptured and brutally tortured, while a hellish reality unfolds where people are treated as commodities under the threat, 'You can only go home if you meet your sales quota.'
Kim Yeong-seob, CEO of Tiger Studio, explained, "'No Mercy' is not just a revenge drama, but a social thriller that exposes the reality of 'systematic crime' where people are used as tools." He added, "We aimed to criticize the 21st-century slave market, where technology, capital, and people are intertwined."
Meanwhile, the drama 'No Mercy' airs every Wednesday and Thursday at 9:30 p.m. on Wavve and at 9:35 p.m. on Dramax.
