The Republic of Kazakhstan government has selected the Republic of Korea as the first target country for investment attraction to ensure the successful implementation of the mega future city project, 'Alatau City.' To this end, the government will host an investment roadshow for the Korean government and major corporations.
The Kazakhstan Investment Promotion Agency announced on the 13th that it will hold a roadshow titled 'Alatau Rise with Kazakhstan' for the Korean government, related organizations, and companies at Lotte Hotel Sogong-dong, Seoul, from the 15th to the 16th.
This international roadshow is hosted by the Republic of Kazakhstan government and jointly organized by Kazakh Invest, which is leading the Alatau City project in Korea, Caspian Group, a major Kazakhstani conglomerate, Samjong KPMG, a global consulting firm, the Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the Republic of Korea, Alatau City Development Group, and Alatau City Bank.
The purpose of this international roadshow is to officially introduce the Alatau City project, a national project of Kazakhstan, to the Korean government, public institutions, and related companies, thereby establishing economic and industrial cooperation, exchanges, and investment partnerships between the two countries.
The roadshow will be attended by Kanat Bozumbayev, Deputy Prime Minister of Kazakhstan, Choi Yu-ri, President of the Koryoin Association who is leading the project, as well as vice ministers and officials from the Ministry of Science and Education, Ministry of Industry and Construction, Ministry of Transport, and Ministry of Energy of Kazakhstan. They will visit Korea to share strategies for Alatau City development and discuss specific cooperation plans with Korean counterparts.
On the first day, the 15th, the event will begin with an opening address by Deputy Prime Minister Kanat Bozumbayev, followed by congratulatory remarks from President Choi Yu-ri and Kwak Sang-eon, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea (DPK). Sang-hyup Kim, President of the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI), will then deliver a keynote speech on 'Kazakhstan and the Global Hydrogen Initiative.' Afterward, participants from both Kazakhstan and Korea will engage in discussions on advanced mobility and hydrogen energy industry cooperation.
Additionally, the event will focus on smart city development plans, low-altitude economy (drones, UAM, autonomous driving, etc.), and hydrogen economy cooperation. Investment incentives and benefits for Korean companies will also be introduced. The Koryoin Association will present the 'K-Park Project,' which is connected to the history of the Koryoin diaspora. On the second day, the 16th, various business meetings in advanced industry and energy sectors will be held to discuss practical cooperation measures between Korea and Kazakhstan.
Strategically located to connect China and Europe, Alatau City is the largest smart city in Central Asia, currently being developed on an 880-square-kilometer site north of Almaty, Kazakhstan. Initially, 25 trillion won will be invested in a 440-hectare core area (about 1/200 of the total area) to create specialized zones for industry, finance, tourism, and education. Alatau City aims to accommodate 1.9 million residents and create 1.1 million jobs.
Over 90% of the city’s land will be designated as a Special Economic Zone (SEZ), exempting major taxes such as corporate tax, VAT, and import duties. The 'investment contract system,' which allows direct contracts with the government of Kazakhstan, will also guarantee the rights of foreign companies.
Caspian Group, which is overseeing the overall development of Alatau New City together with the Kazakhstan Investment Promotion Agency, has established Caspian Korea to expand cooperation with Korean companies possessing advanced technologies. Accordingly, this event is expected to serve as a concrete platform for Korean companies to enter Kazakhstan.
Yulia Kim, a partner at the Kazakhstan Investment Promotion Agency, stated, "The Alatau New City project is more than just urban development; it is about creating a new industrial ecosystem at the heart of the Eurasian continent. Through this investment roadshow, Korean companies will be able to learn about the benefits and the safe institutional and cultural environment available for investment in Kazakhstan, creating a win-win opportunity for both countries."
Meanwhile, Kazakhstan's real economic growth rate for the first half of this year was 4.9%, surpassing the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) average of 4.1%. Over the past three years, the country has maintained stable growth rates between 3.2% and 4.8%. Leveraging its geographical advantage for geopolitical risk hedging, Kazakhstan is emerging as a global business hub and a logistics center for Eurasia.
