The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MCST) announced on the 13th that, together with the Korea Creative Content Agency (KOCCA), it will host the '2025 World Webtoon Festival' from the 19th to the 22nd at Lotte Town Jamsil in Seoul.
Now in its second year, the 'World Webtoon Festival & Awards' is designed to strengthen Korea’s status as the birthplace of webtoons and to foster communication among domestic and international creators, platforms, production companies, and fans.
This year’s festival will feature a special exhibition titled 'The Chronicle of Webtoons,' divided into six sections, at the Lotte World Ice Rink. There will also be a screening of webtoon-based animations such as 'Maru is a Puppy' and 'Dragon Girl Problem,' live drawing demonstrations, author signing events, and a live dubbing show by voice actor Nam Doh-hyeong, among other interactive activities.
Companies such as WEBTOON, Netmarble, and Wacom will participate, offering webtoon-related exhibitions and hands-on experiences. At Hall 8 of Lotte Cinema World Tower, various webtoon-themed events will take place, including a talk concert with original creators of works that have expanded into other fields, the '2025 Naver Webtoon High School Championship,' and the awards ceremony for the 'University Comics and Webtoon Contest.'
On the final day of the festival, the '2025 World Webtoon Awards Ceremony' will be held. Hosted by announcer Kim Dae-ho, the event will honor ten outstanding works, with the Grand Prize and Jury President’s Award being revealed on site.
The newly established 'Readers’ Choice Award' will be presented to the work that received the most votes in a reader poll conducted from the 1st of last month until the day before the ceremony.
Further details about the event can be found on the official website. An MCST official stated, “We will strive to ensure that the 'World Webtoon Festival & Awards' becomes a globally recognized event and helps Korea solidify its status as the birthplace of webtoons.”
